Offaly Good

The hero of any meal

The term “offal” refers to those parts of an animal that are used as food but are not skeletal muscle:  internal organs such as heart, liver, and lungs, as well as all abdominal organs and extremities, such as tails, feet, and head, including brains and tongue. Blood and tripe are also classed as offal.

Offal is a great source of protein, and some organs, especially the liver and kidneys, are very valuable nutritionally. It has been proven that pets consuming these foods as part of a sensible diet have superior health to pets that do not eat them. However, although organ meats are valuable food, they are not required in huge amounts, as they are very rich in nutrients.

Liver is the most concentrated source of vitamin A and should be fed in small amounts on a regular basis. It contains significant quantities of vitamins C, D, E, K, and all the B vitamins, and is an excellent source of minerals such as zinc, manganese, selenium, and iron. Liver also provides a source of good quality protein and essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. For this reason, it makes a fantastic food for a dog and it is not surprising that all the dogs I’ve met have been really keen on it.

Like liver, kidney supplies good quality protein, essential fatty acids, many vitamins such as A, D, E, K, and all the B vitamins, as well as iron and zinc.

Heart is also an excellent source of protein, B vitamins, and iron. Although its vitamin content is not as high, it does contain some essential fatty acids and significant levels of taurine which is extremely beneficial for the dog’s heart.

Tripe’s rich chlorophyll content is advantageous in reducing gastrointestinal problems but also contributes to red blood cell and hemoglobin formation while detoxifying your blood and lymph systems. Containing the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 (linolenic and linoleic acids), proteins, fats and an ideal phosphorous to calcium ratio necessary to facilitating absorption of either nutrient, green tripe also presents a slightly acidic pH level conducive digestion. Green tripe also provides your dog with probiotic called (lactobacilli) or lactic acid bacteria.

Lung is very low in fat but high in protein. Lung is almost fat free.

Spinach:  Many of the nutrients' pets need to stay healthy are found in spinach. It is a fantastic source of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, vitamin A, folate, fiber, phosphorus, and thiamine. Spinach is also rich in vitamins B, C, and K, as well as antioxidants, beta-carotene, and dietary fiber. These nutrients not only strengthen your dogs’ immune systems but also promote a healthy digestive system. Having healthy eyes is one of the health benefits that your dog could get from eating spinach. This veggie contains vitamins A and antioxidants, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, that support good eyesight. The leafy veggie also has fat-soluble pigments that enhance a dog’s ability to recognize dark and light.

Spinach contains Vitamin K for strong bones and a healthy heart. This essential nutrient also aids in blood clots and protects your pet against bone and heart diseases. Recent studies show that spinach helps against cancer in animals due to its vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids contents, and antioxidant properties. It also contains folate or vitamin B-9, which is vital in forming red and white blood cells, DNA synthesis, and other metabolic functions.

Parsley

  1. 1. Better breath: If you want to improve your dog’s breath, allow your pet to nibble on a few sprigs or add a teaspoon of parsley oil to your dog’s water bowl.

  2. 2. Boosted immunity: Your furry friend might benefit from the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of parsley. Eating this herb periodically in small amounts could help your dog defend itself against life-threatening bacteria, such as salmonella and listeria. Additionally, parsley is a diuretic, making it potentially doubly effective at helping your pet flush out the bacteria that causes urinary tract infections.

  3. 3. Good cellular health: Curly parsley contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid, and chlorophyll—antioxidants that could combat free radicals in your pet’s body, deterring cellular degeneration. Parsley also contains the essential minerals calcium, potassium, and magnesium, all of which your dog’s body requires to maintain healthy brain and muscle functions.

MCT Oil: There are numerous benefits MCT oil may offer. Here is a list of a few key advantages:

  • Brain – MCT helps dogs make ketones, an energy source for the brain, and may contribute to a ketogenic state in keto-based diets. It is a calorie source compatible with keto-based diets.

  • Obesity – A study showed that MCT taken with breakfast decreased the amount of calories eaten at lunch, which may help encourage weight loss.

  • Skin Health

  • Improves Digestion - MCTs are very easy for your body to digest. They are taken directly from the gut to the liver and converted into a usable cellular fuel, giving you immediate energy.

  • Seizures  – may aid in

  • Lower blood sugar levels - Replacing carbohydrates with MCTs in a daily diet will decrease blood sugar, potentially helping with fat loss and controlling blood glucose levels.

  • Reduce chronic inflammation – MCTs have been observed to decrease inflammation in published studies.
